We chose to spend the winter near San Antonio, Texas in 2016 to spend with our Army friends, Leon & Barb, who were stationed at Fort Sam Houston. We met them when we were all stationed in Louisville, Kentucky. But it was a double bonus because we’ve never been to San Antonio.
This was the first time we visited the city. It was in the evening hours a few days before Christmas. The Riverwalk was lit up beautifully. The sparkling lights danced on the water below them. Oh and the Alamo was lit up as well, so we just had to get a photo since there was barely any foot traffic. Getting photos like the one above is a true rarity.
The tall Christmas Tree was decorated in city’s basketball team, San Antonio Spurs, decorations.
We went straight to the Biergarten for our inaugural Riverwalk brew before heading down.
We decided it was time to score some chow so we meandered down to the Mexican Restaurant, Rio Rio, for appetizers and more adult beverages.
After we finished, we let loose on the Riverwalk to enjoy the light fantastic and act like big kids! Sorry the pics are dark, so you’ll just have to trust us when we tell you that everything was festively decorated and lit…as were we!!
And of course, we had some awesome margaritas; a signature drink of San Antonio.
Then we walked some more…
A couple hours later, we found a Texas themed bar that had one of Dan’s favorites, Lone Star Beer. He was a really really REALLY happy man…by then!
The night was awesome! We loved the Riverwalk so much we want to return but in the daytime…and less margaritas and Lone Stars.
We hope you enjoyed us sharing our evening with you in this blog! San Antonio at Christmas is a magical place and the Riverwalk is absolutely amazing. Go! See! Do!!
If you would like to see what else we did in San Antonio…
