We had an incredibly full summer in 2017. We attended the Heartland Owners Club North American Rally in Goshen, Indiana and took several tours throughout the area with club members.  Once we were finished with the rally, we had to hightail it to the Heartland RV Service Center in Elkhart for some warranty service. We were a bit exhausted from the fast-paced schedules so we decided to take a little time off to check out the area. We also needed to stay nearby because we were waiting on some parts. Since we had a good friend highly recommend Elkhart Campground, we thought we’d give it a try.

At our check-in, we were greeted by Bob and Gita. They were very accommodating, friendly and quick with check-in. We had our Idaho Tote with our dual sport motorcycles aboard so we needed a site that could accommodate our length. Bob met our request with no hesitation.  We were assigned to site 741 on the back row.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this tidy and organized Campground near the heart of the Elkhart also known as the “RV Capital of the World”. Its location made for easy commuting to the Heartland RV Factory and Service Center or most every RV manufacturer in the region. It was also about a ten-minute drive to the Aldi’s, WalMart, Lowes Home Improvement, Menards and area restaurants.

Elkhart Campground can accommodate any utility need from 20 amp with electric and water, 30 amp with all utilities and 50 amp with all utilities and 50 amp with just electric and water. They do have a small area for short-term RV storage when available. It would make a great campground where gatherings and small rallies could take place. Tent camping is available also.

The campground is well taken care with tidy gardens and mowed lawns. The roads, though seemingly old, were in good condition throughout the campground. The campground layout is organized and easy to navigate and park. There are cleared, gentle walking trails for a great evening or early morning stroll which looped on one end of the campground.

There’s a small camp store that had some RV parts, knick knacks, cokes and ice cream located in the office. Mail is delivered to the office/camp store for individual pickup. Propane was available as well.

Elkhart Campground has four cabins for rent, a pool, and mini golf. The children’s playground and surrounding area looked rather new(er) and safe with fencing. There is a basketball and pickleball court near the Rec Hall and Laundry Facility. On the other side of the campground, they have a nicely fenced in dog park which seemed to always be busy with pups running and playing.

They do have a few of the standard rules; pets on leashes, pick up after your pets, quiet hours, no clotheslines, no fireworks or firearms, etc. They ask campers to keep their alcohol consumption to their own campsites.

Each site is provided a picnic table and a fire pit; though I can’t remember if they sold firewood but you could get it on the outside. The sites were a little closer together than what we like but then again, when you’ve been boondocking on farms and out in the middle of the desert, everything is close in comparison. Though we never use it and can’t review the capability and strength, there is free campground WiFi.

We stayed there for a month; thus getting the monthly rate.  When it was our time to head out, we agreed that we would go there again.

If you are in Elkhart, Indiana attending rallies, going on factory tours, visiting the area or getting service done on your RV’s, this is a good stopping point. Elkhart, especially downtown, is wonderful city to visit with lots of history, culture and eats. It’s within driving distance to Amish Country and South Bend (Notre Dame University, Studebaker Museum, etc.). So, if you stop at Elkhart Campground, tell Bob and Gita that Dan and Lisa from Always On Liberty sent ya!
