So, before we check out our choices of spice storage solutions for your RV or small space, let’s first learn which kind of seasoning containers and spice rack constructions are best fit for our mobile lifestyle.
First, what should you be looking for when shopping for spice jars or spice containers? By having the right containers for your dried herbs and spices, they will stay fresher for longer periods of time. Then, we’ll talk about which spice rack will work for your mobile RV kitchen or boat galley.
What you should look for in spice containers
Containers used to store your spices and seasonings, whether they’re glass or plastic jars, metal tins or nontraditional spice containers, should provide an airtight seal. Otherwise, your herbs and spices will expire sooner. There’s nothing worse than taking out your spice tin only to find it’s caked solid. That’s because moisture got in the container. However, even the most airtight containers can’t mitigate not getting even the tiniest bit of moisture in them.
Next, they must be of the same shape and size. Keeping them uniform will keep your cabinet, drawer or spice rack more organized and look more attractive when displayed. Also, smaller jars and containers won’t get lost in the bottom or to the back of your cabinet.
Your spice containers should have labels that you can write what the contents are in each jar or spice tin. Also, you may want to include the date of purchase because as with any food, herbs and spices will degrade over time.
And while not necessary if your spice containers are properly labeled, it is nice to have transparent or see-through. Now, I say that loosely. Some herbs and spices age better or degrade less when kept in cool dark places.

But when it comes to storing your herb jars or spice containers, you’ll need a way to keep them organized, easy to reach yet secure to endure bumpy travel. This is why it’s important to select a spice rack to accommodate your spice jars or containers.

Be aware, all of these spice organizers do not include the containers or jars. But, those we listed above coordinate perfectly with them. Just make certain you check the measurements of the spice containers versus which spice you choose.
Pull-Out Drawer Spice Rack and Organizer
This classy yet convenient pullout drawer spice rack and organizer fits into most standard cabinets. This 3-tier spice rack unit saves valuable counter and cabinet space because of its’ design. Herb and Spice Storage Tips
I’ve found by putting in a little tiny desi packs in each spice container. They will absorb any moisture without compromising taste or potency of the herb, spice or seasoning. This is incredibly important for RVs and boats as they are subject to more condensation and moisture based on geographic locations that are more humid.
Pay attention to herbs, spices, seasonings and meat rubs expiration dates. If you are transferring those contents to other containers or spice jars, label them with the expiration date.
