Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground is located less than an hour from Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky. It’s a great Kentucky State Park with impeccable campground amenties and outdoor activities. Enjoy camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking and boating without leaving the state park. This 1200 acre Kentucky State Park is a perfect getaway amidst amazing horse country in heart of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Reservations and Rates

You can either reserve your campsites via Reserve America or call their office during normal business hours. Reservations must be made 1 day(s) ahead of arrival and can be made up to 12 month(s) in advance. Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground has a 1-year booking window.

Be aware, as with all Kentucky State Parks, Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground has different campsite fees for peak times such as holidays and weekends.

A non-refundable reservation fee of $6.00 for campsites and cabins/cottages, will be included in the total payable fees. Your credit card account will be charged at the time that the reservation is made. You’ll need to allow at least 24 hours for your reservation confirmation.

Changes may be made online at www.reserveamerica.com at least 1 day prior to your scheduled arrival. Any reservation made with a departure date that is more than 12 months from today cannot be changed for 18 days after the reservation was made. 

If you cancel your reservation you will be assessed fees. The closer to your arrival date you cancel, the less money you will be refunded. Cancelling 15 days or more prior to arrival – Reservation fee $6.00 + Cancellation Fee $10.00 is applied.

The use fees are refunded. Cancelling 14 days or less prior to arrival – Reservation fee $6.00 + Cancellation Fee $10.00 + the use fee of the first night’s stay is applied. The remainder is refunded.

To cancel a reservation prior to your scheduled arrival, you can cancel online at www.reserveamerica.com or through their Contact.

To cancel a reservation on the day of arrival you must call the park.

Kentucky State Park Campround Discounts

Kentucky State Parks offer several discounts on camping. However, you cannot stack discounts to get an even lower rate. You can use only one discount per reservation.

Military Discount

Active & Retired Military with proof of service, can receive a 10% discount by choosing the “Military” customer type upon booking online. You will be required to show your military ID at check-in.

Kentucky POW (Prisoner of War)

Camp for FREE with POW card issued by Kentucky Department of Parks. POW card must be presented at check-in.

Senior Citizen

Age 62 & Older can receive 10% discount by choosing the “senior” customer type upon booking online. ID required upon check-in.

AAA Membership

Current AAA Members can receive 10% discount by choosing the “AAA” customer type upon booking online. AAA membership card required upon check-in.

Other Discount Qualifiers

Campground Check in

Checking into Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground is easy. Once you enter the campground, present your reservation name to the camp host or gate attendant. They’ll hand you your campsite assignment, site map and campground rules and send you on your way to your campsite.

I highly recommend hitting the dump station after entering the campground but before getting to your site as there are no individual sewer hookups at your campsite.

Campsite at Taylorville Lake State Park Campground

Four separate camping areas in Taylorsville Lake State Park campground:

    • 45 RV standard – 30 amp electric and water hookup (no sewer) (big rig friendly!)
    • 15 tent only – primitive camping.
    • 10 equestrian sites with 30 amp electric and water hookups.
    • Group Camping – primitive camping for organized groups (church, scouts, 4H, etc.)

Handicap Access sites available.

Campsites are spacious with mowed grass and small gravel pads. Each site has its’ own picnic table, fire ring and lantern/trash hanging hook.

Be aware, some campsites aren’t level. You’ll need leveling blocks for some sites; especially if you don’t have a leveling system on your RV.

Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground has plenty of amenities and things to do without leaving the park.

Taylorsville Lake State Park has a great 16-mile multi-use trail system for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrian riders.

And, Taylorsville Lake offers great fishing; whether on the shore or on a pontoon boat. Tons of other amenities and fun things to do at the campground and the Park itself.

Be aware, there is no free campground WiFi.

However, both AT&T and Verizon were about 3 bars each. However, signal strength declines significantly during weekends and holidays.

Things to do near Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground

Within 10 miles of Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground, there’s lots amenities and things to do and places to dine in the town of Taylorsville and in nearby cities of Shelbyville, Simpsonville and Louisville.

In Taylorsville itself, you can find everything you need; groceries (Country Mart), ATMs, dollar stores (Dollar General and Family Dollar), restaurants, The Tea Cup cafe, pizza delivery, gas and diesel, propane (not for big rigs or motorhomes), Urgent Care, Veterinarian (we use Elk Creek Animal Hospital), kennels, boat services and maintenance, Eagles Motel and more.

If you’re looking to play a round of golf, Tanglewood Golf Course is right up the road one the left towards the city of Taylorsville.

And, if you have friends or family who are going to be in the area, you may want to direct them to Edgewater Resort for cottage style lodging.

Taylorsville Lake State Park and Campground is also located close to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail where you can visit 25 craft distilleries.

How to get to Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground?

GPS (Latitude, Longitude):
38.02639, -85.25694, or 38°1’35″N, 85°15’25″W

Driving directions from Louisville, take I-64 south to the Gene Snyder Freeway and KY 155 to Taylorsville; turn east on KY 44 and drive three miles and then proceed onto KY 248 and then turn right onto KY 3230.

From Bluegrass Parkway, take the KY 55 exit to Taylorsville.

We’re a bit partial to this amazing Kentucky State Park because we lived in Taylorsville for 7 years before hitting the road full-time with our RV.

Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground and the Park itself is clean and wonderfully managed. It’s a great place to relax, take your own boat, jet ski, kayak or canoe, rent a boat, go fishing, or just relax around the campfire at your campsite.

It’s an ideal place to relax as or take the family to enjoy the outdoors and get some quality family time. Just be aware, it’s at full capacity and very busy on weekends and holidays.
