The best time to visit Galveston is October to November or March to April when the weather is seasonably warm, but not too hot to enjoy day activities without melting.
Keep in mind though, the island gets busy during Texas public school holidays and Spring Break. And, area colleges and universities’ students flock to the beach during their scheduled Spring Breaks. So you’ll need to think about how far in advance you’re going to book that RV park on Galveston Island.
How is the weather on Galveston Island?
Galveston Island’s climate is subtropical. The area gets approximately 50 inches of rain per year.
The Texas Gulf Coast region has mild winters with a few short cold snaps. Winter runs from very early December to early March.
You can expect an average daily high temperature below 66°F. January is the coldest month of the year with an average low of 49°F and high of 61°F.
Speaking from personal experience, during the month of March and early April, it can get quite windy. So, you’ll want to anchor down your tent, beach cabana and gear securely.
But the summer months, be prepared for heat and humidity with frequent thunderstorms.
Texas’ hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. However, August through October are generally considered to be the peak months for hurricane season, and most storm activity has historically occurred during these months.
And, if you’re wanting to swim in the Gulf of Mexico while enjoying island life on Galveston, you can expect the water temperatures from about 78°- 86° by the end of March.

Sandpiper RV Resort

The San Luis Pass County Park is a 15-acre bay park with both day-use amenities and overnight facilities. This Galveston Island RV park though does not permit tent camping though.
This campground on Galveston Island campground features paved full-service RV camping, cabins, a climate-controlled meeting room with kitchenette, interpretive center, pavilion, restrooms, a playground, and paved parking.
The RV facilities include 69 paved and level camping sites with full hookups (water, electric and sewage). Back-in and pull-thru RV sites are available with 30 and 50 amp services.
A bathhouse with restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are available to registered campers.
This is one of the best places to fish along the Texas Gulf Coast. This camp on Galveston Island has fish cleaning stations and a boat ramp.
Natural attractions include bay fishing from the park, boating, bird watching, nature viewing, and beachcombing in addition to shelling on nearby Galveston Island beaches.
Stella Mare RV Resort

The Breeze Hotel & RV Park

On the other end of Galveston Island in Surfside, The Breeze Hotel and RV Park, this beachfront RV Park can accommodate up to 14 RV units. All sites have concrete pads with 30A and 50A service, water/sewer connections and Wi-Fi.
This small and quaint RV park offers a combination of sites for small RVs to pull through sites for big rigs. Some campsites have an incredible unobstructed beach view of the Gulf of Mexico.
While The Breeze RV Park isn’t as frilly as other RV parks on Galveston Island, it does present a more cozy and laid back beach vibe.
This RV park is in close proximity to Surfside’s Crabbing Pier, Surfside Beach, Surfside Jetty County Park, free boat ramp and Freeport, Texas.
