This geological wonder, located in the Oglala National Grasslands near Fort Robinson State Park is a very remote hiking and camping paradise! In western North Dakota lies the quiet less-visited Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This crown jewel of the National Parks gets far few visitors than Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons. Perhaps because of its’ solitude in nature and its’ off the beaten path destination.
While exploring Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, we camped at Cottonwood Campground inside the park. It’s located just five miles from the National Park’s South Unit park entrance. Our plans were originally to camp three nights. Due inclement weather, we ended up staying a few more days. But it was more than the cold rain that kept us there!
