Upon buying our Winnebago View motorhome, the first thing we wanted was to upgrade our solar panels, RV batteries and energy management system. Now our motorhome can stay off the grid longer when boondocking. Here’s our Winnebago View solar upgrades and improvements to our Class C motorhome’s off grid electrical system.
We thought things couldn’t get any better than living full-time in our beautiful Heartland Landmark fifth wheel. However, our decision of downsizing RVs allows us more nomadic adventures! And, our much smaller RV gives us access to places we could have never fit with our fifth wheel. While yes, we do miss the comforts of our former fifth wheel, downsizing RVs gives us many more opportunities to explore and visit off-the-beaten-path places in our tiny Winnebago View Class C motorhome.
In mid 2018, we installed 600 amp hours of Battle Born GC2 12 volt lithium batteries in our fifth wheel so we could power our RV while camping off the grid. Here’s what we learned and our assessment of these state of the art lithium ion batteries.
In the past year, we’ve absolutely fallen in love with the boondocking concept and off-the-grid parking. Nothing beats parking out in the middle of BLM areas, desert, mountains, lakes, and even farms not having to rely on a power pedestal for our electrical power.
There’s lots to be said for being ‘totally self contained’ and truly meaning it!
