This will take your off-the-grid camping experience to a whole new level.
Since upgrading our RV batteries, solar panels and solar charge controller, our Winnebago View motorhome can now sustain longer-term off-grid boondocking capabilities. We no longer need to be plugged into electric pedestals to produce electricity. Here’s exactly what we did to improve our small Class C motorhome’s solar upgrades.
In mid 2018, we installed 600 amp hours of Battle Born GC2 12 volt lithium batteries in our fifth wheel so we could power our RV while camping off the grid. Here’s what we learned and our assessment of these state of the art lithium ion batteries.
The whole point of RV boondocking is to camp in quiet, remote places whether it’s on BLM land, on the beach, on a farm or in someone’s driveway. However, that comes with a price. Six months into our newfound boondocking enjoyment, we decided to upgrade our fifth wheel with solar panels and an efficient energy management system.
We use our WEN 2000 watt inverter generators to act as our emergency backup power to our RV fifth wheel. We also use them for boondocking and dry camping off the grid. In combination, our two portable Wen 2000 watt inverter generators can run in parallel; providing up to 4000 watts and 30 amp electrical output for half the price as other leading portable generator competitors!
